Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) For Children and Young Adults
What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for Children and Young Adults?
Prior to qualifying as a Psychotherapist, I spent over 10 years as a Teacher, specialising in working with children and teenagers with complex mental, educational or behavioural needs. Throughout that time I developed a wealth of knowledge and resources that I am now able to combine with Psychotherapy in order to support my clients to achieve the best possible results.

What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for Children and Young Adults?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured, evidence-based form of talk therapy that helps children understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are connected. It teaches children to recognise unhelpful thinking patterns and replace them with more realistic and positive ones. CBT is widely used to treat anxiety, stress, excessive worry, OCD, low self-esteem, social anxiety, health anxiety, separation anxiety, school-related stress, perfectionism, depression, trauma, an behavioural issues in children and teens.
I design each session to be fun, creative, and just right for your child’s age and stage of development. My top priority is making sure your child feels comfortable and at ease—because that’s when real learning happens.
Every child is different, so I’m always happy to make adjustments to help them feel more settled. Some children like to bring along a fidget toy or start with their camera off—and that’s absolutely fine. For children who need to move around, I include movement breaks so they’re not stuck sitting still for too long.
Whatever your child needs to feel supported, I will do my best to accommodate. No request is too big or too small.
What to Expect in a Session
All sessions take place online, via Zoom, and are 50-minutes long. Your child’s first session will be an assessment session which allows for me to get to know your child better, understand their needs and build trust/rapport.
From there, I will develop a personalised plan tailored to your child’s needs, to help them work toward their goals as efficiently and effectively as possible.
How Parents Are Involved
Parental involvement plays an essential role in the success of CBT. In many cases, parents attend part or all of the initial session, and as your child becomes more comfortable, you may decide to join briefly at the end of sessions. Throughout the process, you’ll gain tools to support your child’s progress at home, encourage the use of new coping strategies, and reinforce positive behaviours. CBT is not just about helping the individual – it’s about empowering the whole family to grow and thrive together.
